Belgien Die Westmalle Trappistenbrauerei ist eine von nur elf existierenden Trappistenbrauereien. Trappistenbiere werden von Mönchen in Klostern gebraut und der Großteil des Erlöses fließt in soziale Projekte. Seit 1836 wird im Kloster bei Antwerpen Bier gebraut. Zunächst für den Eigenbedarf, seit 1856 wird das Bier auch vertrieben. Seitdem wurde aufgrund hoher Nachfrage die Brauerei mehrfach vergrößert. Está hecho con azúcar de caramelo pálido y tiene un color muy pálido producido a partir de una mezcla de maltas pilsener ligeras. El lúpulo Styrian Goldings se usa junto con algunas variedades alemanas y el clásico lúpulo Saaz pilsener. Después de una larga fermentación secundaria, el Tripel Westmalle se embotella con una dosis de azúcar y levadura. Esta cerveza se mantiene bien en la botella con el tiempo y parece suavizarse con la edad.

La Westmalle Tripel nació en 1934. La "Madre de todas las Tripels" es una referencia en todo el mundo y ha inspirado a muchos productores de cerveza.

La Westmalle Tripel fue lanzada en ocasión de la puesta en marcha de la nueva sala de producción de cerveza de la abadía. En 1956 su receta original fue adaptada de nuevo y desde entonces, es decir, más de 60 años, ha permanecido inalterada.

Es una tripel compleja y equilibrada, una cerveza dorada y clara que sorprende por el sabor afrutado del plátano maduro y sutiles aromas a lúpulo. Ofrece al paladar finura y elegancia, tiene un gusto suave y cremoso, con notas amargas soportadas por el aroma afrutado. Disfruta de un regusto deliciosamente largo y seco. La Westmalle Tripel debe su carácter complejo al lento proceso de elaboración y a la refermentación en la botella.
