Dit bier wordt meestal geschonken uit flesjes van 33 cl, precies de inhoud van het bijhorende kelkglas. De Tripel is ook verkrijgbaar in flessen van 75 cl. Opmerkelijk is dat het bier in deze grotere flessen op een andere manier rijpt. De fruitige geur is wat zachter en rijper en het bier krijgt een lichte vanilletoets.

ORIGINEEL VAN BIJ HET BEGIN
Voor het eerst gebrouwen in 1934, wordt de Tripel van Westmalle wel eens de “moeder van alle tripels” genoemd en kreeg als stijl navolging door vele andere brouwerijen. De Tripel van Westmalle ontstond naar aanleiding van de ingebruikname van de nieuwe brouwzaal in de abdij. In 1956 onderging het recept nog een aanpassing, maar die is sindsdien, dus al meer dan 60 jaar, onveranderd gebleven.

De Tripel kwam bij het assortiment in de jaren 1930. De naam verwijst naar een verdrievoudiging van de ingrediënten van het oorspronkelijke trappistenbier van Westmalle, een idee dat ook andere bierbrouwers overnamen om het type aan te duiden.

True to the Rule of Saint Benedict, they ensure their own means of sustenance. For this reason, there is a farm, a cheese dairy and a brewery inside the walls of the Trappist abbey. These three things are deliberately kept to a small scale, and particular care is taken of people and the environment. The brewery’s income is used to make the necessary investments in this respect, to make changes in line with developments in brewing technology, to support Trappist communities and to carry out charity work.

Elle est le fruit d'une sélection rigoureuse des ingrédients entrant dans sa composition. De nombreux houblons interviennent ainsi ici pour aromatiser et donner l'amertume à cette bière d'exception. De plus, la levure utilisée est la même depuis 1956 et elle influe grandement dans la complexité aromatique et gustative de cette trappiste. Vêtue d'une toge d'un blond doré intense, cette religieuse exhibe dès son entrée dans le verre une mousse blanche, crémeuse, abondante et à la belle persistance. Elle laisse s'échapper de celle-ci des arômes complexes et fruités de houblon et de levure avec des notes évoquant notamment les oranges et les agrumes. L'entrée en bouche est tout aussi complexe avec un corps, aussi soyeux que velouté, à la texture très agréable.On découvre des saveurs fruitées difficilement identifiables ainsi que des pointes rappelant la présence de l'alcool et une amertume très florale qui s'installe et perdure après la dégustation.

Werd voor het eerst gebrouwen in 1934 en het recept is sinds 1956 niet veranderd. Het wordt gemaakt met lichte kandijsuiker en heeft een zeer lichte kleur die ontstaat door een mengsel van lichte pilsenermouten. Er wordt gebruik gemaakt van Styrian Goldings-hop, samen met enkele Duitse varianten en de klassieke Saaz-pilsenerhop. Na een lange tweede gisting wordt de Tripel Westmalle gebotteld met een dosis suiker en gist. Dit bier houdt zich goed in de fles na verloop van tijd en lijkt zachter te worden met de leeftijd.
