Resident No-No Joe

We first met Joe Musgrove in the spring of 2021. Shortly after being traded to the Padres, he sent us a message telling us that he had visited the brewery and enjoyed our beer. As massive baseball fans, we were flattered and grateful for his compliment.

To express our thanks, we invited Joe downtown to check out the brewery and taste a few of our beers. While he was visiting, we asked if he would be interested in brewing a beer with us, and he eagerly agreed. A few days later, he threw the first No-Hitter in San Diego history.

When the time came to brew our collaboration, we set out to create a beer that would properly commemorate Joe’s historic achievement. Here’s what we decided on:

Name: Resident No-No Joe
This natural rhyming nickname seemingly swelled from sources all around San Diego following Musgrove’s No-Hitter (or No-No).

Style: West Coast Double IPA
When we asked him which beer styles he would be interested in brewing, Joe suggested the two most “San Diego” styles possible: Mexican Lager and West Coast IPA. Since we had recently debuted our Compadre Mexican Lager, we ended up deciding on a West Coast Double IPA.

ABV: 8.206%
Musgrove threw his No-Hitter on the 8,206th game in Padres history.

IBU: 59
Prior to joining the Padres, Musgrove wore #59.

SRM (Color Indicator): 4.4
When he joined the Padres, Musgrove chose #44 to pay homage to Jake Peavy, who he watched pitch while growing up in San Diego.

Perhaps the best part about this release is that a portion of the proceeds from each 4-pack of Resident No-No Joe sold will go directly to Challenged Athletes Foundation, a local charity that works to “empower individuals with physical challenges through sports.”
