Spark Plug historically was a second runnings beer that chased Power Plant.* This rendition has its own malt bill so we could really craft a perfect hoppy table beer.
notes likes citrus and leaves your palate feeling refreshed and thirsty for more. This beer is the perfect complement to the massive Power Plant, or it can be crushed pint after pint without wrecking your day.
*What the hell are second runnings? When we lauter enough wort to hit the desired strength for Power Plant TIPA, there is still plenty of sweet wort in the mash to use in another beer. In past years, this wort was collected separately from Power Plant and used to make Spark Plug. This year, however, we decided to make Spark Plug separately from Power Plant so that we could have more control over gravities, malt composition and fermentability, and regulation of polyphenol content in the finished beer.
Tasting Notes: Crystal clear, straw colored beer with white foam and moderate lacing. The aroma is dominated by bright lemon and strawberry with hints of mango. The flavor is very light with a balance of refreshing citrus and white bread. This beer is very crisp and leaves just a hint of bitterness on the palate.
Ingredients: Hops – Centennial, Simcoe, Amarillo Malt – Rahr 2-Row, Weyermann Munich, flaked rye Yeast – Chico Ver menos
