Craft Beer: Little Critters Brewing Co - Nutty Ambassador: Fresh Craft Beer from Our Bottle Shop and Taproom: Our super tasty Hazelnut Milk Stout. With hazelnut aromatics, coffee and chocolate notes this is a great marriage of flavours. Lightly filtered to retain the luscious taste this product contains lactose (milk sugar) and oats which combine to give a slightly sweet but smooth body.

ABV 6% - 440ml - Stout - £5.75

We started off by using a base of the famous Maris Otter pale malt and added oats, roast barley, chocolate, brown and crystal malts to give the beer the enticing black colour and flavours of roasted coffee, chocolate, hints of caramel and a slick smooth body from the oats and lactose. As for the hops; we’ve kept the bitterness low (around 30IBU) and used some Slovenia Bobek hops at the end of the boil to add some earthy and herbal notes that compliment the malt flavours. We then ferment it with our English ale yeast strain, which ferments cleanly at lower temperatures, allowing the malt, hops and natural hazelnut essence to come together in perfect harmony. LITTLE CRITTERS -2012 we started with a Sheffield pub the Fox & Duck in Broomhill and followed this in 2014 with the Doctor’s Orders on Glossop Rd. We’d always had a love for cask across the pubs and whilst on holiday having the odd shandy came up with the brilliant idea of opening a microbrewery and serving our own quality ales.
So first things first we started home brewing, buying little packets of hop, grain and yeast goodness, getting the kettle on and learning the ropes on a small scale. Wow this brewing is addictive. An odd splurge of wort here, trip over the dog with the mash on the way to the bin there. We were soon knocking out some pretty tasty brews but the kitchen needed a break. Plan in hand off to the bank then.
Late 2015 we found a unit in the Kelham area where we knew the water was good and immediately felt at home. Cold Room built, drainage plinth sorted, Dave Porter supplied and fitted the kit - we started our adventures in brewing beer.
