In Sachen Geschmack lässt das alkoholfreie Weißbier der Andechser Klosterbrauerei nichts zu wünschen übrig. Das Weizen ist der allererste Sud ganz ohne Alkohol, den die Brauerei in ihr Sortiment aufnahm und ein Novum, das einiges an Aufwand mit sich brachte. Statt der Entwicklung eines neuen Hefeweizens ohne Alkohol bevorzugte das Team eine alkoholfreie Version ihres beliebten klassischen Weißbieres. 2016 waren Technologien, die den Alkohol schonend entfernen, noch weniger verbreitet, daher musste die Klosterbrauerei einiges investieren, um sich eine der seltenen Anlagen zu sichern. Die Investition hat sich aber gelohnt: Das Andechser Weißbier alkoholfrei ist mittlerweile seit knapp 10 Jahren fester Teil des Kernsortiments und begeistert noch immer.
Der milde Sud fließt in warmem, kupfern schimmernden Honiggold ins Glas, ist hefetrüb und krönt sich mit einer Haube wattigen, weißen Schaums. Ein klassischer Duft nach reifer Banane und betörender Nelke lädt zum Antrunk ein. Die Geschmacksprobe enthüllt einen vollen, samtig weichen Körper, der mit einem Potpourri aus ofenfrischem Bananenbrot, zartbitterem Hopfen, spritzigen Zitrusanklängen , würziger Hefe und Nelke punktet.

The modern day view may find it unusual that a monastery brews beer. Yet this can be explained more easily when we take a look at the history of monasteries.In former times, the brewing of beer, just like the baking of bread for example, was part of the daily household chores. This was true above all among the more rural cultures in the south of Germany. Beer was brewed either for own consumption at home or jointly in the village brewery.Some of these village breweries are still operating even today, especially in Franconia and the Upper Palatinate. Also a monastic community is a large, joint household in economic terms. It stood to reason, therefore, that the monks also brewed beer for their own consumption. It can be safely assumed that the seven Benedictines who were sent to the new Andechs monastery from Tegernsee in 1455 also brought with them extensive knowhow in brewing techniques.
