Kererū Brewing Company Paloma Barrel-Aged Barley Wine

This deep amber strong ale was aged more than 10 months in unique whisky casks that held very special NZ single malt whisky for more than 8 years.

Paloma är ett Barley Wine som fått mogna i hela 10 månader på Nya Zeeländska “NZ Whisky Co” fat som du kan läsa mer om här! Ölen har en djupt bärnstensfärgad look och de tio månaderna på faten har verkligen gett karaktär. Resultatet är en smakrik, nötig och len öl med toner av torkad frukt, russin, kryddig kaka och porvin!

Ölen är fantastisk nu, men kommer att mogna med vördnad i många år. Servera den inte för kall, utan som ett vin i ett trevligt glas.

Brewer’s Note

“Kereru obtained 140 unique oak barrels from the NZ Whisky Collection, a company founded around the stock of the former Wilson’s Distillery in NZ. The stock was lost for many years and was then found and the whisky had aged to perfection. Some of the casks were 60 year-old American oak ex-bourbon barrels which contributed vanilla, oak and hints of maple to the whisky. Some of casks were French and American oak ex-red wine barrels from Mills Reef which contributed red wine and port notes to the whisky. The casks arrived in small lots as they were decanted of whisky, and were wet and sloshing with a bit of magical spirits still inside. Each cask can impart its whisky character into a beer only once. After that the cask can be used again, but will only offer oak barrel character. This makes all our whisky barrel-aged beers unique and never to be repeated. Each bottle is hand numbered.”

This deep amber strong ale was aged more than 10 months in unique whisky casks that held very special NZ single malt whisky for more than 8 years. The casks have a great story to tell and amazing flavours to contribute to the beer. The casks (French and American Oak) originally held red wines from Mills Reef in NZ and then created the special Double-Wood/Oamaruvian releases from the NZ Whisky Co. The resulting beer is rich, nutty, and smooth with notes of dried fruits, raisins, Christmas cake, and tawny port.
