Mike Stevens y Dave Engbers tenían trabajos estables cuando decidieron perseguir sus sueños y abrir una fábrica de cerveza, lo que significaba un plan de negocios, dejar sus puestos de trabajo, y enfrentarse a préstamos gigante. Pensaron que si vas a vivir la vida, debes hacerlo con fuerza, sin remordimientos.
Después de algunos problemas iniciales, debido a la elaboración de cervezas bien equilibradas, pero nada destacadas, estábamos en el borde de la quiebra. Fue en este punto cuando el equipo de Founders decidió preparar el tipo de cerveza que les entusiasmaba desde un primer momento: compleja, con más aromas, cuerpo y un montón de sabor.
La familia de Founders es un grupo de entusiastas de la cerveza que ha crecido alrededor de esta sencilla filosofía: "Nosotros no elaboramos cerveza para las masas. Las elaboramos para unos pocos elegidos, un pequeño grupo de renegados y rebeldes que disfrutan de una cerveza que se acerca a los límites de lo que es comúnmente aceptado como base. En resumen, hacemos cerveza para gente como nosotros ".
