Sullivan’s Brewing Company was established in 1702 in The Maltings on James’s Street, right in the heart of Kilkenny City. Mr Sullivan worked hard to establish a brewery, the likes of which the city had never seen before, using the best local ingredients and the best brewing methods.  The Brewery has had more than its fair share of ups and downs. 1845 was a dark year for Ireland with the start of the Great Potato Famine - during this time the brewery was transformed for mealtimes and evenings into one of Kilkenny’s largest soup kitchens. 1880 was the year of ‘The Great Sullivan’s Brewery Fire’ and finally, in 1918, the doors shut on Sullivan’s Brewery. Fast forward to 2016, direct descendants of the Sullivan family and The Smithwick Family joined in partnership to reopen the once great brewery, in the city where it all began. Sullivan's Pale Ale is a traditional pale ale that is light amber in colour. Brewed with gently roasted Vienna malts and cold hopped with Amarillo hops, fermented with Sullivan’s yeast and their ‘no rush’ brewing process.  Perfectly balanced with hints of citrus, tangerine and orange in the aroma, Sullivan's Pale Ale is a refreshing, hoppy Irish pale ale.
