If you don’t know the story of Brian Strumke and his beer company, Stillwater, just google it…you’ll see all kinds of articles through the years from all kinds of well-known publications. His story was one that did not exist when he began but is a fairly popular way to do business these days. The articles paint the picture of a madman trying to invent and reinvent different beverages…it’s true, he’s an artist and has tons of stories that will one day (soon) fill a book. We’ve been lucky enough to get to know Brian well while his head is out of the clouds and the reporters recorders are turned off. He’s a thoughtful goofball who is passionate about flavor creation and loves nerding out on beer; he is a very welcome addition to our little beer scene here in Washington.

Our brewer’s first Stillwater experience was a bottle of Cellar Door in 2012 in Soda Springs, NY…a memory that was implanted using sage in beer. We HAD to see what that Saison (Cellar Door) would taste like as a lager…lower the alcohol, pull a bit of Citra from it but keep it dry – we gotta say, we really love what the sage did in this wheat heavy (50%) unfiltered lager. Also, since we’re basically a Keller-style brewery, why not rename it as “Keller Door”…brilliant!

We would be remiss not to mention that the best person in this industry works with Brian…The One and Only, Sam Mo.
