In the early 18th century, English beer was rarely aged by brewers. The aging was the responsibility of the pub‘s cellar master, or the merchant selling the drink. some good quality aged beers acquired a sour taste, and sold for
prices than fresh beer. Since the aged beer was more expensive, pubs would sell blends of aged and fresh beers to keep the prices low. Legend has it that in 1722, Ralph Harwood, of Bell Brewery, invented a beer that would replace the blends. The new dark yet mild beer was the first to be aged in a brewery, and distributed in a ready-to-drink condition. The name ‘Porter’ was given to the beer due to its immense popularity between the street and river porters of London.
Our Porter is a take on the traditional English beer that originates from the pubs of London.
